Position Title: Pharmacy Technician
Location: Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina
Reports to: Pharmacist

Position Summary:

The Pharmacy Technician works under the direct supervision of the pharmacist. This position is responsible for the overall coordination and processing of new patient medication orders and reorders. This individual works with both internal and external customers to ensure that orders are processed in a timely manner and meet all financial and clinical requirements prior to fulfillment. The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for answering incoming calls/completing outbound calls to/from patients, physicians and pharmacists.

Essential Functions:

1. Verify insurance benefits
2. Obtain authorizations/reauthorizations
3. Translate prescriptions
4. Enter new and refill prescriptions into the pharmacy information system
5. Select and retrieve appropriate medications, compound medical prescriptions
6. Prepare and dispense medications
7. Send order to Pharmacist for completion
8. Verify quantities and prepare labels for bottles
9. Screen, identify, resolve or defer orders that have accounts receivable or clinical problems to pharmacy manager
10. Communicate and collect co-payment amounts
11. Prepare medications for shipment
12. Replenish work station supplies such as pill bottles, caps, safety seals and paper
13. Clean equipment e.g. counting trays, compounding equipment, maintain workstations
14. Maintain good housekeeping techniques, adhering to quality and production standards while complying with all applicable company, state and federal safety and environmental programs and procedures
15. Participates in quality improvement activities
16. Participates in Staff Committee, as requested.

Qualifications:

1. Education:

  • HS Diploma or equivalency required
  • Pharmacy Technician registration issued by the state of North Carolina

2. Experience: Minimum one (1) year experience preferred. Experience in retail pharmacy and/or insurance/healthcare background preferred. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within a dispensing pharmacy.

3. Licenses/Certifications: Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of North Carolina

4. Special Skills:

  • Detail oriented with ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruption
  • Ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment, learn quickly, solve problems and make decisions
  • Ability to stay focused and productive though tasks may be repetitive
  • 2nd language spoken preferred
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule for peak times
  • Good customer service skills required

5. Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with computer and Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to learn new and complex computer system application
  • Digital dexterity e.g. use of computer keyboard
  • Knowledge of computer programs
  • Telephone skills

6. Applicants must be able to pass a drug test and background investigation and depending on position requirements, a Department of Defense background investigation.
